The cake was originated in the 16th century in southern Germany. The original name was “Schwarwalder Kirschtorte”. The original recipe could not be sold legally because it contained a cherry extracted liquor “Kirschwasser”, but later this recipe was continuously developed. It was made to be known widely in the year 1915 by an unknown confectioner who made Black Forest Cakes available for sale. When making this type of bakery cake for sale, one must only use cherry extracts from the Black Forest in Germany.
