The inventors of Banoffee Pie are Nigel MacKenzie and Ian Dowding, the owners and chefs of Hungry Monk restaurant in the city of Gelington East Sussex. They said that the invention of this pie happened in 1971 by modifying the recipe from “Blums Coffee Toffee Pie” which is an American pie with liquid toffee and sweetened condensed milk. The toppings were apples or mandarin oranges, but Mackenzie used bananas instead and named it “Banoffee Pie”.
